Ehram is a state of consecration and purity that a pilgrim enters before performing the sacred rites of Hajj or Umrah. It symbolizes equality, humility, and devotion to Allah, marking the start of a spiritual journey. This article delves into the significance of Ehram, its rules, and the spiritual benefits it offers.
1. What is Ehram?
Ehram is both a physical garment and a spiritual state:
- For Men: Two unstitched white sheets (izar and rida).
- For Women: Modest clothing that covers the body, excluding the face and hands.
It represents a break from materialistic concerns, emphasizing humility and equality among pilgrims.
2. Entering the State of Ehram
- Preparation: Take a full bath (ghusl), trim nails, and remove unnecessary body hair.
- Dua for Intention (Niyyah):
Arabic:
اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أُرِيدُ الْحَجَّ أَوِ الْعُمْرَةَ فَيَسِّرْهُ لِي وَتَقَبَّلْهُ مِنِّي
Roman Transliteration:
Allahumma inni ureedul hajj awil umrah fayaassirhu li wa taqabbalhu minni.
Translation:
(O Allah, I intend to perform Hajj or Umrah, make it easy for me and accept it from me.) - Recite Talbiyah:
Roman Transliteration:
Labbaik Allahumma Labbaik, Labbaika laa shareeka laka Labbaik. Innal Hamda wan-Nimata laka wal-Mulk, laa shareeka lak.
Translation:
(Here I am, O Allah, here I am. There is no partner to You. Indeed, all praise, grace, and sovereignty belong to You. You have no partner.)
