Umrah, often referred to as the lesser pilgrimage, holds immense spiritual significance for Muslims. Unlike Hajj, Umrah can be performed at any time of the year and involves fewer rituals. Here’s a step-by-step guide to performing Umrah with the associated duas in Arabic.
1. Preparation for Umrah
- Niyyah (Intention): Begin by making the intention for Umrah sincerely for the sake of Allah.
- Cleanliness: Take a full bath (ghusl) and trim your nails and hair as needed.
- Ehram: Men wear two unstitched white cloths, and women wear modest clothing without covering the face and hands.
2. Entering the State of Ehram
- Dua for Niyyah:
Roman Transliteration:
Allahumma inni ureedul umrata fayaassirha li wa taqabbalha minni.
Translation:
(O Allah, I intend to perform Umrah, make it easy for me and accept it from me.) - Recite Talbiyah:
Roman Transliteration:
Labbaik Allahumma Labbaik, Labbaika laa shareeka laka Labbaik. Innal Hamda wan-Nimata laka wal-Mulk, laa shareeka lak.
Translation:
(Here I am, O Allah, here I am. There is no partner to You. Indeed, all praise, grace, and sovereignty belong to You. You have no partner.)
3. Tawaf (Circumambulation of the Kaaba)
- Upon reaching Masjid al-Haram, begin the Tawaf by making seven circles around the Kaaba in an anti-clockwise direction.
- Dua for Starting Tawaf:
Roman Transliteration:
Bismillah Allahu Akbar, walillahil hamd.
Translation:
(In the name of Allah, Allah is the Greatest, and all praise belongs to Allah.) - Between the Yemeni corner and the Black Stone, recite:
Roman Transliteration:
Rabbana atina fid-dunya hasanatan wa fil-akhirati hasanatan wa qina azaban naar.
Translation:
(Our Lord, grant us good in this world and good in the Hereafter, and save us from the punishment of the Fire.)
4. Saee (Walking Between Safa and Marwa)
- After completing Tawaf, proceed to the Safa hill to begin Saee.
- Walk between Safa and Marwa seven times, reflecting on the struggle of Hajar (AS) and the mercy of Allah.
- Dua at Safa:
Roman Transliteration:
Innas-Safa wal-Marwata min sha’airillah.
Translation:
(Indeed, Safa and Marwa are among the symbols of Allah.)
5. Halq or Taqsir (Shaving or Trimming Hair)
- For Men: Shave (halq) or trim (taqsir) the hair as an act of humility.
- For Women: Trim a small portion of hair (about the length of a fingertip).
6. Completing Umrah
- Once the hair is cut, you exit the state of Ehram. Your Umrah is now complete. Spend time in prayer and dua, thanking Allah for this spiritual journey.
Conclusion
Umrah is a beautiful journey of faith, devotion, and spiritual cleansing. By following these steps and engaging deeply in the duas, pilgrims can ensure a fulfilling experience. May Allah accept your Umrah. Ameen.
